What happens when you die? An Auckland Herald Poll conducted in late 2004 showed that 62% of New Zealanders believe in an after life. Worldwide, the figure is over 70%. God has set eternity in our hearts and people have an innate desire to return to the paradise lost in the Garden of Eden. Though they may believe in an afterlife, the true details are still unknown to many. Is there life after death?

John 5:28, 29 (NLT) “The time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to judgment.” Jesus stated there would be a resurrection of all people. The Bible doesn’t describe unbelievers’ resurrection bodies, but they will be suited to hell. However, it does detail the believer’s resurrection body. So what it is it like?

All will die someday. At death, the spirit leaves the body and goes to hell or heaven. When Christ returns to earth, dead believers are raised from the dead with glorious new bodies reunited with their spirits. We groan (not moan) in our present bodies. Christ reigns for 1000 years. Then everyone else is raised and judged.

In this series of messages we have looked at what happens at death and the judgment to come, briefly mentioned the rapture (snatching of believers off the earth), and the return of Christ. This message looks at world conditions after Jesus returns to earth. These events are biblical facts but no one knows the exact timing or sequence. We need to stay alert, prayerful and watchful, while respecting the beliefs of other sincere Christians as to timing.
