The Quiet Revival Just Became Louder
In our August newsletter (click here to read) we reported on what is being called ‘The Quiet Revival’ occurring in the United Kingdom. Is this happening in other nations? The evidence says that it is. A Fox News report dated 17 August this year stated:
“The Bible is having a moment. It’s true: younger generations are showing an unmistakable but surprising openness to the Bible. They are driving a sizable increase in Americans who have seemingly rediscovered the Bible and made a personal commitment to Jesus. It’s happening across the globe, as well. The UK’s Quiet Revival Report showed a 16% increase in church attendance among 18–24-year-olds. Bible sales grew 50% in Russia in 2024, following two straight years of record-breaking increases. There is a "Catholic boom" in France, the U.S. and the UK.”
News outlets in other nations are also reporting on this growing spiritual hunger (headlines below courtesy of Pastor Ben Hoyle, Faith City Church, Whanganui):
USA Today, 20/4/25: ‘Gen Z is returning to Christianity. Data proves it. It’s not time to call this a revival, but something is stirring in the culture.’
The UK Guardian, 21/4/25: ‘I’m delighted to see Gen Z men flocking back to church.’
Australia News, 6/12/24: ‘Why more Australian Gen Z men are finding meaning in organised religion.’
The New Zealand Herald, 22/2/25: ‘ ‘It’s beautiful waiting for sex.’ Gen Z’ers on why they have turned to God.’
The Times, USA, 8/7/25: ‘Over 7,750 baptised at Huntington Beach in largest single-day baptism in US history.’
Something is indeed stirring. Everything that can be shaken is being shaken (see Hebrews 12:27). Prayer for revival and awakening is ascending to heaven as never before. As a result, God is softening people’s hearts, especially in a young generation looking for authenticity, purpose, and hope. And they are finding it in Jesus.
And with the recent tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, US conservative dynamo and lover of Jesus, the fires have been stoked. Greta writes:
“As soon as I heard of Charlie’s assassination, I was moved to pray for his wife and children, and then intercede and prophetically declare that God will turn this evil deed around for good. Charlie’s death is like a seed that’s fallen into the ground. It will multiply so that there will be a massive harvest of young people pouring into the Kingdom of God. The Lord will release boldness and courage to many to rise up and speak up like Charlie. A great army will rise up who love the Lord and his Word, not just in America, but across the nations. Young people set on fire for Jesus and with a fire of courage will stand up and speak his truth in love wherever they go to give hope and eternal life to millions.
As if to underline this, something significant occurred when we ministered at Life Church, Christchurch recently. Twenty people received Christ over the Sunday meetings. One was a young man who was not a church-goer but who had been deeply affected by Charlie’s death a few days before. He felt he needed to attend a church meeting and was one of the first to receive the Lord.
Evangelist Daniel Kolenda, confirming Greta’s impressions, told his church:
“The bullet hit Charlie’s neck where his voice is located. Satan is trying to shut down the voice of truth and boldness. There has been a slide into deception and apostasy. Evil triumphs because good people refuse to speak out. The greatest threat the world faces is not radical Islam [or western humanism and liberalism] – its lukewarm Christianity. Satan has made a terrible miscalculation. A kernel of wheat falling into the ground will bear much fruit. Gen Z has a calling on them. They are different. Now Charlie has gone, they will be an army of voices. His voice will be raised from the dead.”
Charlie’s death will not cause revival, but it will stir millions of believers to intercede for an outpouring of God’s Spirit and to be bold in their witness to the truth. With the shot the assassin fired, the quiet revival just became much lou
